We tried Target's Augmented Reality feature

Two weeks ago, Target joined other retailers like IKEA and Lowes by adding an Augmented Reality feature for select home items on the Target mobile site. Target guests can now see how a new piece of furniture would look in their own home by using the camera on their mobile device. The “See It In Your Space,” feature enables shoppers to envision how furniture would look before buying the product.

You simply need to take a picture of the space where you want to place your piece of furniture. When you choose a virtual item from the product list, just tap "See it in your space" and position and scale the couch wherever and however you want. You can add it to your cart straight from the AR interface if you decide that it's a good fit. At this point in time, you can only choose from 200 piece of "Project 62" home products, but Target plans to add thousands more by 2018.

Currently, this feature is only available on the mobile website and not the Target App. Integrating this feature within the iOS or Android app would create a more frictionless user experience so hopefully there is a plan in place for users to take advantage of a larger screen on an tablet through the app or taking away the added step of having to manually type in the Target website on an internet browser. Here are screenshots from when we tried it in a Jacobs' team member living room.

We tried the feature on an iPhone 6 and Safari quit twice during the process so the tech team at Target HQ still has some bugs to work out.
